Two things will be important when you are seriously looking for a green house. The general surroundings for the green house and the location and approach for such a house so as the daily consumption of energy would be reasonable to get your daily needs.

Normally we will find two types of houses. The one which is having all the facilities within a reasonable reach and the other one will be a place where we will find the entire perfect ambiance of a good environment but far away from the availability of all the basic requirements. The former one we may classify as a green home because we will be using less fuel and less driving. The saving on fuel is the direct contribution for the good environment.

Sometimes it may not be possible for a home in a perfect location where we will get all the basic needs within a reasonable reach. In such a situations,the alternative would be to become self sufficient. Self sufficiency means to have a good garden tended by ourself which can give enough food for a normal family. For the energy requirements we require facilities for harnessing the solar energy supported by water mill within the compound itself.

The conditions mentioned in the above paragraphs will be pointing towards a common point. Such green houses will be less dependent on the local grid for their energy requirements. This is a direct contribution for the well being of the environment as you will be part of a group who demands less energy,demanding less energy means more contribution towards the environment.

If your search has landed you in a place where you are not in a well placed location and but having many facilities for self sufficiency. Then your concentration should be on a well designed home. The designing has to be made in such a way that the place is cool in summers and warm in winters,with the bare minimum need for air conditioning and heating.

This type of environmentally healthy design along with the use of certified energy content appliances,you will be contributing significantly for the energy saving. But for many,the initial investment is prohibitive,but this will pay off handsomely in the near future.

We will feel rightly about the initial cost for a green house. For many it indeed is prohibitive. We have to take a pro active attitude to get over this problem. What we have to do is to concentrate on the long term rewards on this.

We will be significantly contributing to the well being of the environment. So be a part of the elite who are on hell bent to create a healthy environment for self and future generations.
